Adobe Audition

Adobe Audition is a desktop audio editor for Windows and Mac. It is not a host. You record or import tracks, cut on a timeline or a waveform, clean noise, then export a file you upload somewhere else. There is a guided Essential Sound panel for talk, music, and effects. There is also a deeper mixer for people who already know the knobs. Sending audio to and from Premiere is the usual reason video shops keep it. Adobe Podcast is a different web tool. It is for a producer already paying Creative Cloud, especially someone who finishes picture in Premiere and needs the sound next door. It is for audio drama and in-person roundtables that want separate mics and restoration tools. It is not a remote recorder. Guests still join somewhere else. It is not for someone who wanted a one-time license and a quiet first week.

What people keep using it for is cleanup. The Podcast Host walks through adaptive noise reduction, painting out a stray sound on the frequency view, and matching loudness so every episode sits in the same place. PCMag's April 2026 review still calls restoration and sound removal the win, and calls the subscription expensive for what you get. In The Podcast Host's 2024 gear survey, about one in six shows named Audition. Colin Gray still uses it and still tells most beginners to pick something else.

The later pain is the bill and the cockpit. Stop paying and the app stops. The annual billed monthly plan is a year lock. Adobe's own terms allow a cancellation fee of half the remaining year after the first two weeks. There is no guest join link. PCMag notes few new podcast features lately. If you only needed a simple cut, people already stay in Audacity or Reaper.

Run the 7-day trial on a real episode, not a silent room. If you cut video, open a Premiere sequence and send the audio over. If you only cut talk, try Essential Sound on dialogue first, then export the full-quality file to your host. Turn off usage data if you care. Keep project files on a fast local disk.

Audition is a full speech and restoration desk you rent. The deal is Premiere family plus deep cleanup. If you wanted free, or one key forever, people already leave. If you already live in Creative Cloud and the sound has to sit on the picture, this is still the usual Adobe vote.
