Descript

Descript turns the episode into a document. You drop in a file, or you record, and it types out the words. Delete a sentence and that audio goes with it. Copy and paste moves the picture too. You can undo a cut. The weekly loop is: new project, add the file, fix names, skip or use the cleanup tools, then export. You can send the finished file to a handful of hosts from there. Guests can join a browser room. Up to ten people. You are billed for how long the room ran, not per person. Guests should use a computer, not a phone.

It fits a talk show that wants to edit by reading, pull clips, and stay in one window. It fits a small team that can live with a monthly pile of recording time and AI credits. It does not fit someone who wants to sculpt sound by hand. It also does not fit a guest who will only join from a phone. If you already have a serious editor and only need cleanup, this is more tool than that job.

The appeal is editing speech through a transcript. Review automated removals and voice processing against the original recording before export. The appropriate amount of cleanup depends on the source; this entry does not report a measured accuracy or audio-quality test.

What bites later is running out of time and credits. Recording time and AI credits are separate piles. Neither carries over. The chat helper spends credits even when it does not change the edit. Long projects get slow. Close extra stuff. Split a huge episode into a new project. Watch the usage screen so you are not surprised at the end of the month.

Install the app, or use the website. Import the file you already have. Fix names in the transcript before you bulk-remove ums, or it will cut the names too. Leave the voice cleanup off on music, and off if two voices already sit on one track. Record guests in Chrome on a computer. If an upload stalls, start editing what landed, send them the recovery link, and swap in the full file when it finishes. They have about a week. Export the file and send it to your host. Descript does not run the show in the apps.

Descript is a script you can cut. The deal is speed on talk, paid in minutes and credits. If you want a file on disk and no account, people already stay in Audacity. If you want a full-quality file per guest, they already open a remote room elsewhere. If reading the episode is how you cut, this is the usual pick.
