Logic Pro

Logic Pro is Apple's full editor for Mac, and a matching app for iPad if you subscribe. It is not a host. You record or import tracks, cut, mix, then export a full-quality file you upload somewhere else. GarageBand projects open here. You get a real mixer, timing and pitch tools, a stem splitter, session players, and a huge sound library. The one-time Mac app and the Creator Studio app have the same features. Creator Studio also brings Final Cut Pro and the rest of that suite.

It is for a Mac producer who outgrew GarageBand. It is for a show that also scores music, or a team already paying Creator Studio for video. The Podcast Host's 2024 survey put Logic at 3 percent of shows, a smaller and different buyer than GarageBand at 9 percent. It is not for Windows. The current Mac app needs Apple silicon and macOS 15.6. It is not a remote recorder.

What people keep it for is the upgrade path and the depth. Apple's own page says you can open a GarageBand project and keep going. Mac producers who already live in this desk use stacked takes, a full mixer, and add-on repair tools that sit next to the stock plug-ins. It is a music studio that also cuts talk. That is why it shows up next to Reaper and Audition, not instead of a guest link.

The later pain is the machine and the rent. Intel Macs are out of the current version. Creator Studio is a subscription. Stop paying and you cannot open or edit those projects until you subscribe again or buy the one-time Mac app. The one-time purchase is Mac only. iPad Logic comes with the suite. You still capture remote guests somewhere else and bring the files in.

If you already edit in GarageBand, open that project in Logic and see whether the extra mixer is yours. Run the Creator Studio month trial if you also want Final Cut. If you only need Logic on a Mac you will keep, the App Store one-time buy is the keep-the-app path. Export the full-quality file to your host. Keep project backups on a fast local disk.

Logic Pro is the paid Apple step-up from GarageBand. The deal is one Mac key, or a suite rent that also covers iPad. If you wanted free, stay in GarageBand. If you wanted Windows, people already pick Reaper or Audition. If the Mac is the desk and GarageBand ran out of room, this is the usual Apple vote.
