Loopback

Loopback creates virtual audio devices on a Mac. You build a device that combines your microphone, the audio from a call app, and a music player, then point your recorder at it.

That is the fix for a whole category of frustration. Recording a guest who will only use a video call app, playing a clip into a live show, keeping a co-host and a caller on separate tracks. All of it becomes routing rather than luck.

It is a hundred dollar utility, so the honest advice is to wait until you need it. Many shows never do, because the recording platform already handles separate tracks.
