Comrex ACCESS is a line of audio codecs, hardware and software, used throughout radio broadcasting to send broadcast quality audio reliably over ordinary internet connections, technology that predates most consumer podcast tools.
Public radio stations and any podcast produced within a broadcast newsroom often already have this infrastructure in place for live remotes, and repurpose it for podcast interviews or field recording links.
