The gotcha

It is Mac-only, and multi-speaker diarization quality still varies, so interview shows often need a cleanup pass.

MacWhisper is a native Mac app that runs Whisper and related models on your machine. You drop in an episode file (or record system audio) and get a searchable transcript you can export to text, Markdown, DOCX, SRT, and more.

The pitch for podcasters is privacy and cost shape. Audio stays local by default. Pro is a one-time license instead of another monthly transcription bill. That matters for interview archives, guest NDAs, and hosts who already live in a Mac edit bay.

It is not a full Descript-style show editor, and it will not replace a DAW. Think of it as a fast local transcript desk. Speaker labels and filler cleanup help, but overlapping talk still needs human eyes. Large models want serious RAM, especially on older Intel Macs.
