| Starting video workflow | Monthly from | Annual from | What you upload once |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flightcast Basic | $50/mo per podcast | $500/year per podcast | Video to YouTube and Spotify; audio RSS elsewhere |
| Captivate Personal + Apple HLS | $31/mo ($19 host + $12 video add-on) | Varies by billing choice | Video for Apple HLS; audio RSS; YouTube still separate |
| Spotify for Creators | $0 | $0 | Video to Spotify; manual YouTube upload; audio RSS |
| Riverside Grow (reference) | $49/mo | $588/year | Record here; host video on Riverside or export elsewhere |
Start with where the video must play
Our recommendation is to shortlist Flightcast when one upload must reach YouTube, Spotify video and a normal audio RSS feed together, Captivate when you already host audio there and only need Apple HLS video as an add-on, and Spotify for Creators when free audio hosting plus manual YouTube uploads are acceptable. Riverside Grow belongs in the conversation when recording and optional hosting happen in the same subscription, not when you only need a distribution hub.
Write down three destinations before comparing prices: where the long-form video must appear, whether Apple Podcasts video matters to your audience, and whether podcast apps still need a separate audio feed. A show that lives on YouTube first and treats Spotify as a bonus channel has a different stack from an interview show that wants retention stats on both platforms from one publish button.
Unified publish: Flightcast
Flightcast is the clearest answer when re-uploading the same episode three times is the weekly bottleneck. Basic at $50 per month per podcast sends video to YouTube and Spotify and audio to Apple Podcasts and other RSS clients from one upload. Unified analytics across those platforms is part of the pitch, including retention-oriented views hosts rarely combine elsewhere.
The gotcha is per-show pricing and tier gates. Every additional podcast needs its own subscription. AI clip generation and automatic YouTube-to-Spotify syncing start on Pro at $100 per month. Basic includes generous storage for 4K video but no AI clips. Treat dynamic ad insertion as infrastructure, not guaranteed revenue.
Flightcast fits established video shows with budget for a dedicated video host. It is harder to justify for a first audio-only season or a network that expected unlimited shows on one flat account.
Audio host plus Apple video: Captivate
Captivate remains an audio-first host with optional Apple HLS video. Personal starts at $19 per month with unlimited shows and shared download allowances. Apple HLS video is a separate add-on, documented at $12 per month per enabled show with 1,000 HLS downloads included and possible bandwidth overages beyond that.
That math matters for a single video show: about $31 per month before you upload anything to YouTube. Captivate does not replace a YouTube workflow. It solves Apple Podcasts video delivery for hosts already committed to Captivate's audio stack, AMIE dynamic insertion tools and growth features.
If Spotify video is essential, confirm the current integration path on Captivate before subscribing. Do not assume an Apple HLS add-on automatically covers every video destination your marketing page mentions.
Free host, manual video: Spotify for Creators
Spotify for Creators remains free for hosting and distributes audio through RSS to other podcast apps. Video uploads go to Spotify's video surface; YouTube still requires a separate upload unless you syndicate through another tool. For a creator testing video without a new hosting bill, that tradeoff can be acceptable.
The cost is labor and analytics fragmentation. You will reconcile YouTube Studio, Spotify for Creators and whatever your audio host reports. Episode numbering and titles can drift between platforms if you do not enforce a publishing checklist.
Spotify for Creators fits early experiments and audio-primary shows adding occasional video. It is not a replacement for Flightcast's unified publish when video is the product and time is the constraint.
Record, edit and optionally host: Riverside Grow
Riverside is primarily a remote recorder and editor. Grow adds video hosting and Apple video publishing to Pro-level recording features. PodStack lists Riverside under Remote recording; its hosting features are secondary categories, not the same product category as Flightcast or Captivate.
Choose Riverside Grow when the bottleneck is capture quality, separate local tracks and a built-in editor, and bundled hosting is a convenience rather than the main reason to subscribe. Pro is documented at $29 per month month-to-month or $24 per month billed annually; Grow adds hosting-oriented features at higher tiers—confirm the current Grow price on Riverside's pricing page before budgeting.
A common stack pairs Riverside for recording, Flightcast or Captivate for publish, and Podlytic or PodAnalyst if analytics history must survive the next host migration. Keep each tool's primary job in mind when adding it to My stack.
Analytics and clips sit beside the host
None of these hosts removes the need for clip tools, transcript workflows or cross-platform analytics. Flightcast includes AI clips on Pro and above; other stacks still need Headliner, OpusClip, Descript or similar for social packaging.
Podlytic preserves historical CSV data when you change hosts; PodAnalyst emphasizes retention curves across Apple, Spotify and YouTube. If you migrate into Flightcast from another host, plan the analytics handoff before you redirect the feed.
Before you start
- List required video destinations: YouTube, Spotify video, Apple HLS, audio RSS.
- Calculate per-show costs if you run more than one podcast.
- Confirm whether AI clips or YouTube-to-Spotify sync require a higher tier.
- Trial one episode through publish, analytics and clip export before migrating the archive.
- Save the host and any add-on plans to My stack alongside your recorder and editor.
Common pitfalls
- Assuming every host with a video checkbox publishes to the same platforms.
- Comparing Flightcast's per-podcast price with unlimited-show audio hosts without adjusting for show count.
- Treating Captivate's Apple HLS add-on as a full YouTube and Spotify video bundle.
- Paying for unified analytics in one tool while still manually uploading video elsewhere.
